There is no doubt that the old adage "prevention is better than cure" is very true. With this in mind, many preventive services are offered. Some examples include advice on travel vaccinations, childhood vaccinations, breast checks, mammograms and pap smears, prostate checks and skin checks for skin cancers. Many different blood tests (for example for cholesterol and blood glucose (to detect diabetes) may be arranged.
Computer based recall and reminder systems are employed to reduce the chance of important follow up procedures being overlooked. We encourage patients to contact the clinic for all test results.
Results can be accessed between 12 and 1PM each day. A nurse will be able to review your results and plan any follow up that is suggested by your GP. If you are unable to contact the clinic during this time if you leave a message on the nurse phone and they will contact you within 1 business day.
The opportunity to create a personally controlled electronic health record (PCeHR) now exists. Before the doctor can perform this task, it is necessary for each patient to register with Medicare and provide consent for this process to occur. PCeHR can be a useful aid when travelling around Australia as this allows other medical practitioners the opportunity to access medical information about you if medical attention is needed during your travels. Information is stored in a secure electronic, encrypted style.
